Where it comes from
Biosynthetic pathway: Terpenoid pathway — plants build them from identical five-carbon blocks.
Why it sits where it does
A sesquiterpene alcohol — its hydroxyl group can form hydrogen bonds, so it clings much more firmly than the non-polar cedrene from the same source.
Where else you meet it
Cedarwood, juniper, vetiver. It is a natural fixative and widely used in men’s fragrances.
