Why it sits where it does
An open-chain hydrocarbon, more mobile than the ring forms, so it evaporates easily. It sits near limonene on the band and usually comes out in the same region of the chromatogram.
Where else you meet it
Lavender, hops, basil leaf. It oxidises very easily, so its share falls with the age of the bottle.
