Lavandulyl acetate
Also known as Lavandulol acetate — an analysis may use any of these names
Herbal, dry sweetness, very particular. Its presence is a sign of genuine lavender; blended products often leave it out because it is expensive and few people notice.

Where it comes from
Biosynthetic pathway: Terpenoid pathway — plants build them from identical five-carbon blocks.
Why it sits where it does
The same ester family and the same size as linalyl acetate, so the two sit side by side on the band, usually only a few dozen seconds apart on a chromatogram.
Where else you meet it
Found almost only in the genus Lavandula. Its absence from a sample labelled lavender is a sign worth questioning.
