Myrrh essential oil
Commiphora myrrha
Một dược · Burseraceae
Warm, bitter, resinous, with a medicinal note and something like dried mushroom. It is dense, slow, and makes no effort to be likeable.
As with frankincense, myrrh burned in a censer and the steam-distilled oil are two different smells. The oil has no smoke. It keeps the bitterness and the resin, and stays on a smelling strip for days.
The Vietnamese name một dược comes from traditional East Asian medicine, where this resin has been used for a very long time. In blending it rarely stands alone. It is used as a dark ground for brighter smells to lean on.
