Cornmint essential oil
Mentha arvensis
Bạc hà Á · Lamiaceae
Cold first, smell second. That is the real order, and if you pay attention you can catch the small gap between the two.
The cold is not smell. It comes from the trigeminal nerve, the same system that tells you chilli is hot and cinnamon is warm, so smelling mint means using two senses at once while believing it is one. Compared with peppermint, cornmint has more menthol, which makes it straighter and harsher.
Separating those two sensations is the hardest exercise in the medicinal family. People who have worked with scent for years still have to pause for a beat to do it, and that is worth saying so beginners do not lose heart.
